My favorite part of painting is losing myself in the chaos of the background. There’s something intoxicating about letting the colors spill and flow with no plan, no destination. In those early moments, the painting isn’t trying to be anything—it just exists, free to shift, stretch, change its mind, or become something entirely unexpected. There’s no ‘supposed to be,’ no boundaries— only freedom.

This is the phase I savor most, where the undefined feels alive, and the unknown holds endless possibility. It’s a dialogue, not a plan. Raw and unfiltered, and in its shapelessness, it shows me who it wants to be. These layers aren’t just a foundation; they’re the soul of the piece. Without them, there’s no map, no key to the story that will unfold.

RUGRATS is a nostalgic and sentimental piece inspired by the untamed creativity of childhood—where self-expression knows no limits, and anything within reach becomes a canvas. With a nod to the familiar reprimand,“don’t paint on the walls,” this artwork playfully challenges this notion, inviting us to see beyond concieved boundaries. The innocent act of painting on walls is, at its heart, an unfiltered expression of freedom, unspoiled by expectations or rules.

This piece calls us to reconnect with that fearless, inner child who created freely and unapologetically. When we restrict expression to the confines of an 8.5 x 11 rectangle, we stifle imagination and risk losing that raw, limitless spirit. RUGRATS reminds us that true self-expression shouldn’t be boxed in or bound by fear of consequence. RUGRATS is an invitation to break free of limitations and let our imagination reach beyond, knowing that the sky is, indeed, the limit.

Afterall, we are still children at heart.
